As seen by the events of the first few days in the Imix trecena (see May blog re May 27-31) many of the energies evocative of the primordial realm of “birth”—such as volcanic fires, strong winds, and overpowering amounts of water—were brought into focus at this time.
As the trecena continued to unfold the “birth” of a new direction in space exploration could be seen on 8 Lamat (June 3rd) when six men from Europe, Russia, and China climbed into a confinement module to begin a 520 day simulation of a journey to Mars. With its Venus related symbolism, 8 Lamat could be described as the “resurrection of space related leadership”. This Mars journey simulation is scheduled to span a time frame that covers precisely two Tzolk’in cycles, which means that the six men are due to emerge from their confinement on 8 Lamat on November 5th, 2011. For the duration of the experiment these six men will only be able to communicate with the outside world via email. On the same day that this simulation began three Russian astronauts returned to Earth aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft after spending several months crewing the International Space Station. A glimmer of hope also began came through on that 8 Lamat day when BP finally managed to place a kind of “top hat” cap on the Gulf oil deluge.
However, by the end of the trecena hope was dissipating almost as fast as the oil was gushing as crude continued to pour forth despite the fact that thousands of gallons are now being siphoned off on a daily basis. Rescue efforts to de-oil large numbers of birds, turtles, and marine life, and clean-up efforts over large swaths of beach and coastlines underscore the fact that this disaster has given birth to a vastly different form of existence for the people of coastal Louisiana and other areas along the Gulf. The June 1st announcement that the hurricane season has officially begun makes the overall situation even more ominous. This announcement was made on 6 Kimi (which can be interpreted as “death everywhere”), exactly 140 days after the 9 Kimi day that brought on the Haiti earthquake. While this is not a “prophecy”, it is a coincidental reflection of the enormity of the problem, serving to re-emphasize the obvious: that death (to wildlife, environments, and livelihoods) is already “everywhere” in that region, and spreading rapidly. A hurricane, however, would have the potential to escalate the situa- tion to unthinkable proportions.
An illustration of the type of damage that can be caused by such wind related events was seen on June 5th and 6th when an outbreak of tornadoes rampaged through several states in the US Northeast, Midwest, and Great Lakes area, including Ontario. This tempest began on 10 Ok, a “burner” day associated with “running with the fire”, and this outbreak carried an enormous amount of “fire power”, with some areas being hit by tornadoes rated as high as EF3 and EF4. Lake High School in Millbury, Ohio was almost completely destroyed, along with at least 50 other buildings in that region. This was very close to Tzolk’in anniversaries of major tornado events that hit several eastern U.S. states on 13 B’en in 1999 and again in 2006.
