Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

The Maya date was 4 Ajaw 3 K’ank’in, equivalent to Dec. 21, 2012 – not the “end” of the calendar, but the completion of the 13th Bak’tun, a key date that marked the beginning of a new Great Cycle of Time. As always, the energies encoded in the calendar continue on. As described in Manual for the Soul, A Guide to the Energies of Life, the 260 day cycle that forms the foundation for the Maya Calendar is comprised of 20 trecenas (weeks), each containing 13 days, each of which represents a unique energy with a very special meaning. These energies as they manifest, at work and at play, are the focus of this blog.

In mid to late August the corn is high and the season’s bounty is ripe for the picking. The summer has been hot and challenging, and many of those challenges continue as fire fighting crews battle against ferocious wildfires in many different regions, particularly along North America’s West Coast. While this is going on, other areas have been hit by Read the full article…

It has been hot, it has been intense, and for many this past trecena has been decisively life-changing. Deadly wildfires have been raging in several regions, and the battles to quench them will likely continue on throughout this new trecena.  But, as always, there is a shift underway as the new trecena begins, and many new possibilities are being presented. Read the full article…

As often happens, the lively days immediately preceding the opening of this “Flint” oriented time frame were “world-shakingly” eventful – days of great joy as thirteen boys were rescued from a deep cave in Thailand, days of “glory” for France when its team won the World Cup, and days of jaw-dropping incredulity as Trump’s summits with NATO, the UK, and Read the full article…

School’s out, summer’s here, and the life-fomenting Chikchan trecena is clicking into gear. Within the 260 day Tzolk’in cycle the beginning of this trecena marks the start of the third 52-day period, a time often associated with both justice and “awakening”. And it seems that much is in the works at this time that ties right in with this, much Read the full article…

“I really care”, the slogan that began appearing on apparel in the U.S. over the past couple of days, is vividly representative of the backlash triggered in that country a few days ago when the First Lady wore a provoking “I really don’t care” jacket when she went to visit an internment camp for immigrant children in Texas. This “I Read the full article…

Hold onto your hats! With some highly volatile events coming up during this “Storm” related trecena, it will be important to maintain your bearings as we ride this one out! Sometimes it’s important to stop, take a breath, and just be still for a few minutes. But sometimes events happen so quickly that this “pause to regroup” can be forced upon people by circumstance, as happened two cycles ago in the Philippines as the survivors of Super Typhoon Nock-ten (the most intense tropical cyclone in 56 years) began this trecena Read the full article…

A royal wedding, the dismantling of a nuclear test site, widespread flooding, a pipeline conflict, a volcano threatening a massive eruption, Manhattanhenge, and a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East – all these, and much more, are on the table as the B’en (“Personal Authority”) trecena gets underway. During the last opening of this trecena (end of August, Read the full article…

Pick up your paint brushes, tune up your flutes, and strap on your dancing shoes as this is the arts-oriented Ajaw trecena, traditionally an auspicious time for merriment. During the last appearance of this trecena it was most definitely the sun that triggered “solar-brations” as hundreds of thousands of people gathered in strategic places to witness the “Eclipse of the Read the full article…

After another round of startling events brought forth by the Ix trecena, we now come to the Manik’ trecena, with its emphasis on Sacrifice and Reconcilation. Symbolized by a Deer or Stag, a powerful but gentle and adaptable creature, this 13-day time frame often centers around interactions between two “forces” that will need to negotiate in various ways in a Read the full article…
