Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

The Maya date was 4 Ajaw 3 K’ank’in, equivalent to Dec. 21, 2012 – not the “end” of the calendar, but the completion of the 13th Bak’tun, a key date that marked the beginning of a new Great Cycle of Time. As always, the energies encoded in the calendar continue on. As described in Manual for the Soul, A Guide to the Energies of Life, the 260 day cycle that forms the foundation for the Maya Calendar is comprised of 20 trecenas (weeks), each containing 13 days, each of which represents a unique energy with a very special meaning. These energies as they manifest, at work and at play, are the focus of this blog.

After another round of startling events brought forth by the Ix trecena, we now come to the Manik’ trecena, with its emphasis on Sacrifice and Reconcilation. Symbolized by a Deer or Stag, a powerful but gentle and adaptable creature, this 13-day time frame often centers around interactions between two “forces” that will need to negotiate in various ways in a Read the full article…

After that series of new beginnings over the past few days (with the beginning of the new cycle and the Maya New Year, and even the official start to spring) we come once again to the Ix trecena – the energy that was in place at the time of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. While, at first glance, that may Read the full article…

It was an intense and tearful conclusion to the last cycle over the past couple of days as hundreds of thousands of young people marched on Washington DC and in hundreds of other cities in the US and other countries to call for stricter gun controls in the US. In many other regions, such as the UK, the battle with Read the full article…

As we come now to the Lamat (Star) trecena, the last 13 day period in the current 260-day Imix-to-Ajaw cycle, we can sense the “heralding” aspects of this time frame coming into place, as this is the trecena that will bring in a long awaited spring. Although we can be sure that change is in the works, the forms that Read the full article…

As we push on towards the end of the current One Imix-to-Thirteen Ajaw cycle, with just two trecenas remaining, this Men (Eagle) trecena tends to be a kind of “head’s-up”, “call-to-action” type of period, a time frame associated with valour and the push towards supremacy. This is a zone that has been oriented, traditionally, around power, military strength, and transformative Read the full article…

Red and gold, red and gold, everywhere red and gold – lanterns, pom poms, streamers, firecrackers – red envelopes with “lucky money”, lion dances, special treats – all are making their presence known as the Chinese Spring Festival gets underway. This year Chinese New Year is being celebrated as the Year of the Dog, coinciding at this time with the Read the full article…

Water – cleansing, nurturing, refreshing, lifegiving –  don’t we all need more of that these days? “Oh sacred water – we come to you with great reverence and appreciation . . . . (from “We are Protectors of the Water”) Keeping the focus on these kinds of positive aspects of water, we can see that this water-oriented Muluk trecena will Read the full article…

Here it comes again – that “echo effect”, but this time the ante is upped. Early last May the end of the Ak’bal’ trecena saw U.S. lawmakers scrambling to pass a spending bill to prevent the government from shutting down, with many of the White House’s key demands being excluded when the bill was pushed through just before this Kib’ Read the full article…

DARKNESS – for many this is a fearful thing – a time of harshness, severeness, a time of mystery, a time when things hidden come to the fore and find their expression. For others darkness is an embrace – a time when the hubbub of the world is temporarily halted and momentary rest provides a chance to regroup, a respite Read the full article…

After a rough (or downright devastating) 2017 for many, the Ok trecena – generally aligned with Love, Loyalty, Warmth, and Guidance – will carry us from Christmas on through the first few days of the New Year. Traditionally the first day of this energy period was celebrated as an ancient Feast Day of Renewal, oriented around the idea of guidance, Read the full article…
