Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

Get out your brollies and wellies (or snow boots in many areas), as once again Chac is making his appearance. This is an energy that has proven to be highly tempestuous, and often strongly catalytic. Seen as the “Storm” trecena, this Kawak time frame was traditionally recognized as being under the patronage of Tláloc, the Aztec god of rain (known as Chac to the Maya), and a powerful wind god.

Katrina flooding

It’s an energy associated with clouds, lightning, thunder, and heavy rainfall that has the potential to create either a “water blessing” that can purify and transform, or some sort of complete disaster, as happened when it pushed Hurricane Katrina into the Mississippi delta in 2005.

Indeed, over the past few years this trecena has brought a number of significant weather systems such as the 2006 storms that triggered some of the worst flooding in New England in 70 years, and the fierce lightning storm that brought the golf-ball sized hail that severely damaged fruit crops in the B.C. interior in 2008.

In May of 2011, all eyes were again on the Mississippi River as thousands of people were forced to evacuate from its flood plains as the crest waters made their way down the river to the Gulf. On 11 Muluk the following January, exactly three Mars cycles (9 Tzolk’in cycles) after Hurricane Katrina, “buckets of rain” and powerful winds spawned at least three tornadoes in Texas and brought major flooding to several regions. At the same time thousands were being evacuated in Australia as monsoonal rains sparked flash flooding and landslides in New South Wales and Queensland.

At the beginning of summer in 2013 this trecena spawned cataclysmic flood disasters in China as well as India, that affected tens of thousands of people. Several parts of the U.S. and Canada were also dealing with raging flood waters, with Alberta being hit so hard that 27 communities in and around Calgary were put under states of emergency, with scores of people having to be rescued from rooftops and tops of cars. High River was nearly completely submerged and Calgary saw the Bow River running rampant through the city. Some 75,000 people had to be evacuated as cars were submerged and many key areas in the downtown core were inundated for several days.

And then there was that “apocalyptic” shelf cloud that appeared over Sydney Australia last March. It dumped 30mm of rain in just 30 min., causing buildings to shake, and then moved on. It appeared on the very first day of the Kawak trecena, right on cue, garnering a great deal of attention.

A week later the mid point of the trecena brought blizzard conditions to Southern Ontario and the U.S. from the Midwest to New England, causing massive travel disruptions, and leaving tens of thousands of people without power. So, indeed, it can be a wild one . . . and this being November, things could turn very, very wet or possibly remain (at least for much of North America) in an icy grip . . . . Let’s keep those gloves and scarves and galoshes handy!

And while this trecena can certainly place emphasis on its stormy potential, these is often a strong theme running through it that pertains to compassion. Many events that have taken place during this time frame have triggered strong emotions, often eliciting floods of tears, as in the sudden and completely mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airways Flight 370 on the fourth day of this time frame last March. The world held its breath as the search went on day after day, with no sign on the plane anywhere.

In addition to this problem, the intense crisis in Crimea played out during the last appearance of this trecena, after thousands of Russian forces infiltrated the peninsula and took over military zones. On the final day of the trecena Crimea declared its independence from the Ukraine (after a referendum declared illegal by the U.N.), and Vladimir Putin signed a declaration recognizing the new state. This was particularly tense as this was paralleling the energies that were in place just prior to the start of World War I, at the time when Austria-Hungary were preparing to declare war after Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914.

Gravitational Waves

But, although a force to be reckoned with, Kawak is not always associated with disasters. Indeed, traditionally Tláloc was associated with fertility, as the rain gods brought the life-giving water that was needed for the growth of crops. And at the end of the last Kawak trecena the world received information regarding a landmark discovery in astrophysics – the detection of gravitational waves (ripples in time and space) which have the potential to reveal the birth of the universe. Between that and the now proven capacity to land on a comet, who knows what amazing new discoveries might be triggered during this catalytic period.

During this time frame these are the energies that will come into play:

Kennedy was assassinated. Maya birth energy of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo who was killed last month as he stood on guard in Ottawa at the National War Memorial.

4 Ik’ (Nov. 23rd) – the “defining” of wind/breath/spirit; an important energy associated with the connection between Quetzalcoatl and the sun; one cycle since the disappearance of MH Flight 370

5 Ak’b’al (Nov. 24th) – the “pinpointing” of deep esoteric mysteries; in 2009 under this influence CERN’s Large Hadron Collider accelerated to the highest level ever achieved (up to that point) as part of a test to “unlock the secrets of the origins of the universe”

6 K’an (Nov. 25th) – a “six directions” type of energy aligned with “youthful vitality”, the energy that turned Katrina into a Tropical Storm in 2005 at the same time as it triggered an extreme solar geomagnetic storm.

7 Chikchan (Nov. 26th) – this “7 Serpent” (self-generating Liberation/Lifeforce) day is the daysign of Chicomecóatl, the Aztec Goddess of agriculture (especially maize) which is traditionally representative of the more positive aspects of this time frame, with its potential for providing conditions that are favorable for bringing forth nourishment. In 1944 the greatest amphibious assault in history, known as D-Day, took place under this influence, marking the beginning of European liberation.

Lawrence of Arabia

9 Manik’ (Nov. 28th) – an “outwardly projecting” type of energy associated with reciprocity, this time in conjunction with Black Friday, at which time hundreds of millions of people in the US will likely visit the “temples” of consumerism, or at least contact them by internet, on this deeply discounted “busiest shopping day of the year”; 30th anniversary of the release of Bob Geldof’s “Feed the World”

10 Lamat (Nov. 29th) – “foundational bright star” – a foundational “signalling” type of energy; as seen in August of 2010 when the 33 miners trapped in the Chilean mining cave-in signalled that they were alive

11 Muluk (Nov. 30th ) – the “change” in conjunction with “water” energy described above with regard to many intense water related events, such as Hurricane Katrina; the 102nd Grey Cup championship football game in Vancouver; the start of The Who’s 50th anniversary tour, with a concert in Glasgow
