Maya Calendar Energies At Work In The World

On so many fronts 2016 has been a long, tense, strife-ridden year, full of mind-boggling events that have pushed the limits beyond the boundaries of comprehension. Much has been turned upside-down and much uncertainty lies ahead. For many life has been stripped down to the bare bones and the road ahead is unclear. Almost as if to add an exclamation point to all of this we find the Kimi trecena in place at this year-end point, bringing an end to the old year, bringing us back to “absolute foundations”, while simultaneously shepherding us into the new year.

So here again we have a trecena that begins and ends with important “spirit-oriented” energies that call for attention. It begins with One Kimi, the great “foundational” force that can say “enough is enough – let’s bring things back to basics” so that restoration and renewal can begin. The skeletal imagery that pertains to the first day of this time frame provides the reminder that there often needs to be a “letting go” of burdens and restrictions before rebuilding can begin.

Along with this there is often an “acknowledgement of ancestors” aspect that includes the honouring of important knowledge and ideals that may have been forgotten. It is the return to such basics that can provide an important genesis point for regeneration.

Right on schedule, the last appearance of this trecena earlier this year brought a ceasefire in a war, various peace talks, and the revisiting of “absolute foundations” pertaining to environmental concerns, with the signing of the historic global accord to fight climate change. With the demise of yet another iconic rock star – the multitalented Prince – it was a trecena that, once again, brought many people to their knees.

This process of going “back to source” has, at times, brought forth many world-shattering events during this trecena, as in the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand in 1914, that precipitated World War I, one of the most horrific wars in history. In 1989 the Exxon Valdez oil tanker spill off the coast of Alaska took place during this trecena, becoming one of the world’s most devastating human-caused environmental disasters. In 2010 this trecena brought the dreadful cave-in at a copper and gold mine in Chile that left 33 miners trapped and fighting for their lives nearly 2300 ft. underground. And then, one cycle later, this trecena laid the foundations for the “Arab Spring” with the eruption of massive protest demonstrations in areas such as Yemen, Libya, Morocco, Syria, and other places in the Middle East.

But as much as Kimi can, at times, seem like “death”, it is also about new beginnings, and the start of the process of regeneration. During its last occurrence this could be seen in the signing, by 175 nations, of the climate change accord on the final day of this trecena. At that time UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon called it “a moment in history . . . . a new covenant with the future”. Indeed, there was a similar sentiment towards the end of this trecena in 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles between Germany and the Allies, after the conclusion of World War I. Three cycles ago the opening day of this trecena coincided with the illumination of a nine mile line of 8,000 helium-filled balloons in Berlin, representing “hope for a world without walls”, marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The final day of this trecena is a powerful force that can be quite dazzling and attention getting, as it was in 2011 at the time of the royal wedding in the U.K., on the same day as massive anti- government protests were taking place across Syria. In 2014 this same 13 Etz’nab’ energy brought relief to Ukraine when John Kerry brought a $1billion aid package to that country and Putin made a televised announcement saying that Russia would not go to war with the Ukrainian people.

That dazzle that so often accompanies the end of this trecena was seen vividly on its last appearance as thousands of people gathered at various locations to pay tribute to the unique and talented artist known as Prince. Buildings (such as the LA City Hall and many throughout Minneapolis), bridges, monuments, and other structures were lit in purple, candlelight vigils were held, and all-night dance parties took place. Fans gathered worldwide to mourn and pay tribute to this amazing artist. Hundreds of flowers, balloons, and momentoes (many in purple) were deposited at his Paisley Park home. As all this was taking place Etz’nab’s “knife edge” quality was strongly felt, as so many mourned the passing of someone who had brought much pleasure to the world.

As we have seen this is a force that can trigger significant changes in state, including the ignition of whole new ways of thinking. In 1473 the last day of this trecena brought Nicolaus Copernicus into this world, an individual who literally changed the axis of “reality” during his lifetime when he formulated a heliocentric model of the universe with the Sun at the centre rather than the Earth. This provided a revolutionary new “baseline” for thinking and being. A similar shift happened in 1582 when the Julian calendar was replaced by the Gregorian calendar in several European countries.

At the moment, of course, what is urgently needed is some kind of change in state with regard to the impending U.S. presidential inauguration. With so many people enraged by Russian interference in the election process, resulting in the “election” of someone so unstable and so unpredictable, massive protest demonstrations are now being planned. By the time 13 Etz’nab’ comes in at the end of this time frame there will be only one trecena left before the inauguration so it will be interesting to see if there are any shake-ups in store as this event draws closer.

One word of caution – some of history’s largest storms have also taken place during this trecena, including the humungous Carrington solar superstorm event of 1859 that impacted Earth, and Superstorm Nuri that slammed into Alaska’s Aleutian Islands in 2014. This enormous storm not only changed the course of the jet stream but also created a massive polar vortex that brought freezing temperatures to Canada and the lower 48 states throughout the trecena, in the first big chill of the winter. At that time it truly stripped things down to “bare bones”, as is part of the Kimi metaphor.

So if storms do come through at this time – as is happening right now as Super Typhoon Nock-Ten rampages through the Philippines – it would be wise to keep in mind that this is an opportune time to “step back”, hunker down, and regroup, so that restrictions can be released and restoration and renewal can be initiated. As always this is an excellent time to clean out whatever is not wanted or needed, to give concerted thought to what IS wanted, and to set up new foundations for what you want to rejuvenate or bring into your life. Kimi often provides the reminder that it is time to think differently in order to generate better outcomes. With or without storms this Kimi trecena will provide the parameters for setting the foundations for the new year, so use your thoughts well. With New Year’s Day being aligned with the “healing” energy of 7 Eb’, in the middle of the trecena, hopefully it is a good sign that there is some hope and promise for the new year. During this time these are the energies that will come into play:

1 Kimi (Dec. 26th) – the “initiation” of “death/return to Source”/foundations, this time in conjunction with a Super Typhoon in the Philippines and a national day of mourning in Russia after the Russian plane crash on Christmas Day. Three Calendar Rounds (3 x 52 years) plus one Tzolk’in cycle since Abraham Lincoln was nominated as the Republican candidate for President in 1860. 2 Manik’ (Dec. 27th) – a dynamic type of energy aligned with the idea of reciprocity; the energy that brought forth a major coronal mass ejection from the sun in 2010. At this time Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Pearl Harbour with President Obama.

3 Lamat (Dec. 28th) – the “activation” of the “bright star” heralding energy, aligned with leadership; precisely three Calendar Rounds (3 x 52 years) since the seven Southern states formed a Confederacy

4 Muluk (Dec. 29th) – a “defining” day associated with the shape-shifting energy of water

5 Ok (Dec. 30th) – the “blessing of love”, also associated with fire, protection, guidance, and justice; the energy in place when the “solar tsunami” from a coronal mass ejection hit the earth in 2010. Two cycles ago this energy coincided with the ignition of the fierce Rocky fire in northern California that burned throughout the rest of the trecena, destroying 43 residences. It was also a record-breaking day for heat in cities such as Toronto and Ottawa. One cycle since Prince’s last performance.

6 Chuwen (Dec. 31st) – a “six directions” type of energy aligned with creativity and play, but sometimes associated with the unexpected, this time in place on New Year’s Eve. This was the energy in place when the European Space Agency successfully landed Philae on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014 in the first-ever controlled landing on a comet nucleus. At precisely 11:59 p.m. and 59 seconds Universal Time on this evening a leap second will be added to match Earth’s slightly slowing rotation.

7 Eb’ (January 1st, 2017) – a “self-generating stream-of-consciousness” type of energy; a revitalizing force representative of a fertile “mid-point” to the trecena; sometimes a turning point towards the opening up of new possibilities, this time in conjunction with New Year’s Day, the day when António Guterres becomes the 9th Secretary-General of the U.N. Beginning of the UK-India Year of Culture.

8 B’en (Jan. 2nd) – the “resurrection” of personal authority

9 Ix (Jan. 3rd) – an “outwardly projecting” type of energy often associated with deep mysteries; events that take place under this influence can have long range implications.

10 Men (Jan. 4th) – “foundational Higher Vision” – a Burner Day aligned with “taking the fire” in conjunction with the “high vision” of the Eagle. This is strong energy that has the potential to be quite explosive but can also open up far-reaching possibilities, this time coinciding with the Quadrantids Meteor Shower and the beginning of the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival, the largest ice and snow festival in the world.

11 Kib’ (Jan. 5th) – an energy that can be either change-oriented or “inspirational”, often aligned with Kib’s orientation around shedding a kind of “first light” on things, as when the first proton- proton collisions recorded by the Large Hadron Collider took place under this influence in 2009. Maya birth energy of renowned journalist/author Kurt Eichenwald.

12 Kab’an (Jan. 6th) – a “grouping together” type of energy associated with movement – specifically “Earth movement”, making it another powerful energy associated with moving new ideas forward. One cycle since the death of Prince; 60 years since Elvis gave his  third and final performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Maya birth energy of Viola Desmond, the Black Nova Scotian businesswoman who challenged racial segregation in 1946, helping to start the modern civil rights movement in Canada. She will be the first Canadian woman to be featured on a Canadian banknote, due to be distributed in 2018.

13 Etz’nab’ (Jan. 7th) – “transformational flint”, a “heavy-duty” (and often highly attention-getting) force for change; one cycle since the signing of the historic global accord to fight climate change (the Paris Climate Change Agreement). Maya birth energy of Fidel Castro who died a few weeks ago, said to have been the target of over 630 assassination attempts – and yet he survived them all and lived to be ninety! Two years since the horrific Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris.
